When I first started taking lessons with Chris, I was an adult intermediate guitar player looking to deepen my understanding of music theory and improve my technical skills.
From our very first session, it was clear that Chris was going to be an exceptional instructor. He had an exceptional ability to quickly gauge my skill level and tailor his teaching accordingly. The lessons have been challenging enough to push me forward, and Chris is great about providing supporting resources so that I can continue to practice and learn outside of our lessons. This balance kept me engaged and eager to learn more with each passing week.
One of Chris's greatest strengths is his talent for demystifying music theory. He breaks down complex concepts into digestible pieces, often drawing examples from songs I am familiar with. This approach not only made the theory stick but also showed me how to apply it in practical, real-world scenarios. Suddenly, the music I'd been listening to for years took on new depth and meaning.
Chris's teaching extends beyond lessons on theory. When I expressed interest in learning specific songs, he guided me through the process of picking them up by ear. This skill has been a game-changer, improving my overall musicianship and allowing me to learn new material independently.
But perhaps what sets Chris apart most is his role as a mentor and confidence-builder. As someone who has typically been hesitant about writing my own music and performing in front of others, I found Chris's encouragement invaluable. He consistently nudges me to step out of my comfort zone, urging me to compose my own pieces and share them through social media or live performances. His belief in my abilities has been a catalyst for personal growth I never expected from guitar lessons.
Chris hasn't just made me a better guitarist – he's shaped me into a more well-rounded and confident musician. For any intermediate player looking to elevate their skills and explore their musical potential, I can't recommend Chris highly enough.

I have been studying jazz guitar with Chris for about a year and it's been a great experience. Chris is a thoroughly knowledgeable and gifted guitarist on the local music scene. He is also a great teacher with lots of experience teaching guitar at all levels.
I have always spent a lot of time practicing, but in the past I wasn't well organized and didn't get the results I wanted.
Chris has really helped me to have an overall plan. We work on the fundamentals and technique, but most importantly we apply these to jazz standards and I am making actual music, not just running through exercises.

I want to let you know about my experience as a student of Chris Jones. I first heard Chris playing jazz at a local spot. I enjoyed his playing and asked him after the gig if he taught adult students. I’m very glad I did. I began taking weekly lessons with the goal of improving my knowledge of and ability to play jazz. As an older student, I’m glad he was very patient with me. He is non-judgmental with his feedback. He tailored lessons to my goals. My playing improved and I learned a great deal. Chris and his band played an awesome set. No vocals just one long jam session. Our customers loved that they played many different types of music rather than just one genre. We will definitely be bringing them back!
